Building drains in our area are constructed of a variety of materials, including clay, Orangeburg, cast-iron, ABS, and PVC piping. Drain stoppages occur in this piping for a number of reasons. Roots are the most common issue, and can get into piping that has a breach or a seam in the wall. They then can grow thick enough to catch debris and stop the flow of waste water. The roots can usually be removed from the drain by snaking the line, but unfortunately, they continue to grow back, making this a continuing problem. There are questionable chemical treatments, but the permanent solution is to replace the bad section of piping.
Another common reason for stoppages is improper backfilling and/or compaction when the line was originally installed. Over time, the ground can settle in places and cause sagging, or “bellies” in the piping. These low spots disrupt the flow, and the waste water now has to travel uphill to get out of the belly in the piping. Obviously, this will cause periodic stoppages. These same bellies can be caused by roots growing below the drain line and pushing it up, causing a high spot in the line.
These reasons, along with broken or collapsed piping or fittings, can all cause drain stoppages that can interrupt your life. Our goal is to eliminate these interruptions as quickly as possible so you can go on to enjoy your home and your family. Our team is equipped with various drain cleaning machines to get your drains flowing again. If snaking the drain is not the remedy, then we can also perform video inspection of the drain line to determine its condition, and then be able to make informed recommendations on how to proceed.
